CF Summit 2021: Relationships are not for everything (View video, Show Description) The majority of systems have some data aspect in them. That could be from something basic to something very elaborate. For most, when starting a system, you go with a select few databases. Why? Well, probably that is because that is what you are used to. Just go with the old tried and true because you know it works. It's not wrong, but maybe there is a different way. Maybe a better way? Most systems don't need an elaborate, and possibly expensive, relational database. Most can get by just fine with something else. This session is aimed at looking at the different database options that exist. Using that knowledge we can see what database type is more appropriate than others for certain data. We will also look at where using a hybrid of databases makes sense and how that would look to a system. CF Summit 2021: Faster Apps That Won't Get Crushed With Queues And Pub/Sub Mechanisms (View video, Show Description) We all want our web apps and APIs to respond quickly and scale to dizzying heights of traffic, but have we really built our apps to scale to ten times, or even double, our current traffic? Asynchronous messaging is a powerful architectural pattern that will help us avoid fundamental problems with scaling while keeping our ColdFusion apps fast and responsive. In this session, we'll look at how systems like Amazon's Simple Queue Service (SQS) and Simple Notification Service (SNS) – along with similar systems from other cloud providers – can help you build highly responsive, highly scalable apps and services. We'll also see how easy it is to talk to these messaging services from your ColdFusion apps with the latest cloud integration features in ColdFusion 2021. In this talk, I'll discuss the current state of ML, and AI, show you practical examples of both, and then give a demonstration of TinyML, a service to enable machine learning for all developers with an open source device SDK. CFMeetup: Avoiding Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) Vulns in CFML (View video, Show Description) Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerabilities allow an attacker to make arbitrary web requests (and in some cases, other protocols too) from the application environment. Exploiting these flaws can lead to leaking sensitive data, accessing internal resources, and under certain circumstances, remote command execution. Several ColdFusion/CFML tags and functions can process URLs as file path arguments -- including some tags and and functions that you might not expect. If these tags and functions process unvalidated user-controlled input, this can lead to SSRF vulnerabilities in your applications. In addition to providing a list of affected tags and functions, I'll cover some approaches for identifying and remediating vulnerable code. CFMeetup: Migrating apps to ColdFusion 2021 from earlier versions (View video, Show Description) While CF2021 has been out now for a year (released in Nov 2020), many orgs may only now be considering moving to it, whether from CF2018 or perhaps CF2016, CF11, CF10, or even earlier. How have the versions changed, in ways that some older code may not run on CF2021? And if you're skipping some CF version/s, what might have tripped you up in those, though not really "new" in CF2021 itself? And what can you do to mitigate such challenges? In this session, CF troubleshooter Charlie Arehart will share from his experience helping folks make such migrations the past year (and for years with previous CF versions), whether in his role as an independent consultant or providing assistance to the CF community. He'll cover things you can consider in advance of the migration as well as things that might help during or after the migration. Most important, this talk will focus on the differences between CF2021 and various earlier CF versions. CFMeetup: Using LaunchDarkly for feature flag management in CF applications (View video, Show Description) Feature flags are a system of enabling certain functionality in your app based on test groups, cross-cutting segments of users, and your internal release processes. Feature flags can be updated on the fly at any time by any user and don't require deploying new code to your servers. LaunchDarkly is a system that helps you manage your feature flags and how they respond to the users of your site. It offers detailed tracking of each user, each flag, and a robust set of rules for determining which users see which features. In this session, we'll see an overview of how to use the new LaunchDarkly SDK which can be used in ColdFusion applications. Demos will include both ColdBox apps and non-ColdBox legacy apps. ColdFusion at 25: not the kid most have stuck in their minds (View video, Show Description) As ColdFusion turns 26 next month, many seem stuck remembering it only as the "teen" they knew or even the "child", when instead it's grown up to be a capable "adult", impressive in many ways, and even more so recently. In this session, we'll look back at how CF has indeed evolved into a very capable platform, with quite modern features that seem to surprise many--including people working with it currently. If you struggle "finding CF people" or "getting buy-in", perhaps these observations could help you with both challenges. If nothing else, they're things designed simply to help you get your job done, while keeping up with modern practices. We'll start with many modern coding techniques--which will be familiar to those using more "modern" languages but that many don't realize CF supports, and may have for years. We'll then look at ways things such as CF installation/deployment, configuration/administration, monitoring, security, and more have improved over the years. And we'll look not only at CF itself but the community surrounding it, ranging from resources for help and learning to tools and services that others have created, making CF a far more complete ecosystem than most give it credit. CFMeetup: CF Modernization Challenges - Improving Legacy Code (View video, Show Description) Every ColdFusion developer is a builder and an artist. We want to create and craft beautiful, elegant solutions with CFML that are powerful and dynamic... but sometimes, we still need to deal with the legacy code that was built a decade ago by a developer who has long since left the organization and didn't know what they were doing to begin with. Or, maybe the company direction has shifted (again) and what was a priority in the past is no longer relevant. Maybe the approach you originally took to a problem can be done cleaner, and more efficiently. Maybe there's new functionality in ColdFusion that renders old approaches obsolete. At some point, modernization of your approach becomes necessary to retain your sanity! In this group therapy session, I will discuss legacy code, why it's difficult to manage, how to take incremental approaches to improving it and some techniques on how to modernize your development approach. ...including categorizing (vital as more are added), perhaps using Flex or Ajax. Additionally, I'd like to offer the option to capture more details about each presentation as well as to add a mechanism for viewers to share comments with each other on each presentation.

About "no description"

If there's "no description available", it's just that the submitter didn't offer one. It could be that there simply was none they could offer, or they didn't know where to find one. I don't want to hamper people submitting presentations by forcing them to come up with descriptions. The field is there if they have one to offer. In the future, I'll enable a mechanism for folks to offer comments on each presentation, and from those I would gladly update the description (or allow the submitter to).

Are you looking for downloadable versions of these recordings? I'm afraid that's not something I can control for most of these recordings. TO be clear, this UGTV resource is just a repository of *links* to recordings (which can be posted by anyone at all). I do not host the *recordings*. I only offer a place to point to them in an organized fashion.
