Tools and Resources for CFers, Part 9: CFML Caching Tools

Note: This blog post is from 2008. Some content may be outdated--though not necessarily. Same with links and subsequent comments from myself or others. Corrections are welcome, in the comments. And I may revise the content as necessary.
Today's category from my Tools and Resources to Consider for CF developers is from the Tools section, and it's "CFML Caching Tools".

CFML Caching Tools

About this series

This entry is part of an ongoing series, sharing each of the 100+ categories and the tools and resources I (and others) have identified. They're designed to answer the questions we hear, like , "does anyone know of tools or resources to help with ...?"

I've decided to start offering each category here as a blog entry, to give the list more exposure and to make sure I'm not missing anything. For now I'm offering each day one list from the resources and then another from the tools categories. To see the list of all categories, see Part 1 of this series. I may in the future offer an RSS feed of any updates made to the list.

I hope people will get great value out of the lists, here or on the tools and resources page. Please try to remember to point the list out to people you see asking for these kind of tools and resources. Thanks.

Additions/Corrections

The tools/resources list is a perpetual work in progress. I definitely welcome additions or corrections to it. If you have any to offer, you can leave them here as a comment on this blog entry and I'll move them to the list on my site.

BTW, before you offer an update here, please do check the category on the real list. I won't be coming back here to update these blog entries to sync them if I add new items to the real list.

Next up will be a category from the Resources section, CFML Frameworks/Methodologies. There are a lot more than you may think.

Comments
Mach-II 1.6 has very granular caching that can be used stand-alone (i.e. without Mach-II, provided a new loader is written).
Thanks, Matt. That's interesting. Do you have anything where I could point people directly to that, and/or how to do it standalone? I think if I just listed Mach-II as a caching alternative, it would leave most readers confused. :-) But I'm happy to point at something. If there's nothing, we can leave this comment to stand here for people to see. But if there ever is a direct link, I'll be happy to add it to the main list. Cheers.
Check out JSP cache components you may use in Coldfusion:

Thanks, Den. I see you represent ServleSuite (which is cool by me, btw). Thanks for the resource. I've been a fan for years.

This makes a good point: we CFers need to remember that with it being Java under the covers, there may be solutions "outside the box", such as filters, JSP custom tags, and the like, which may solve a problem for us.

I'll note that I've written on that before (more at http://carehart.org/...), and in fact specifically on using filters and that very cache filter you name (and I mention you guys, too) in a Feb 2003 CFDJ article, "Fun with Filters", available at http://coldfusion.sy...

I didn't remember to name these java-based caching options on my list, but will add them. Thanks.
I should add, if anyone's interested in how to use JSP custom tags with CF (like Den mentioned), I forgot to note that the CF documentation (the Developer's Guide) does cover that. Beyond that, I wrote about them, too, in a May 2002 CFDJ article, "Using JSP Custom Tags in CFMX: What, Why, and How", at http://cfdj.sys-con....

I also see that I mentioned there a site that now redirects to servletsuite.com: http://coldjava.hype... Den, was that its forerunner? or just a site that merged with you? I know it was 6 years ago. Just curious. Again, glad to see you guys still around. :-)
The site always was http://www.servletsu... :-)
Just hosted on hypermart and available via their name too.

P.S. filters are actually here http://www.servletsu.../filters.htm
A lot of new since 2003 :)

softcache.cfc is pretty slick and simple:

Yep, sorry I'd missed adding that one, John. Thanks for reminding me. It's been added to the main list (not above, but http://carehart.org/...). Cheers
