'Ask Charlie'
Per-minute Phone- or Web-based ColdFusion Support
Got a ColdFusion or related problem? Want to talk through it with Charlie? Now you can. Of course, you can hire him
as a consultant for hours or days. But you can also hire him on a per minute basis through the service desribed below. It's
free for the first 10 minutes (first-time callers) and
US$1.99 per minute otherwise (paid by credit card provided at the start of the paid portion of your call). Your
satisfaction is guaranteed or your money back.
To arrange a call-back immediately or make an appointment, just
click the "call me" buttons below
or call the 888 number and extension. (
International callers should use the "call me" buttons instead.) The system will attempt to reach Charlie and if available will connect you by phone.
If appropriate, Charlie can also
arrange a shared desktop session during the call where he can "look over your shoulder" via a web browser. No need on your end to give him an account in your system, nor to open any firewall holes. He'll see what you see, including if you need to remote into another server. It's a great way to get quick answers to challenging problems.
Please do consider the following questions before proceeding (
click any to expand its answer).
Charlie will be the first to point out that there are ample self-help resources to get help for free, and he contributes to many of them. Besides many mailing lists and forums, and of course web searches, are such services as the relatively new
cfanswers.org.
Sometimes it's just more expedient to talk through a problem, or find out if there's a quick solution not easily found, or simply have someone look over your shoulder while you trying to resolve something.
In those cases, it may just be faster and more cost-effective for you to make a call. Charlie's been working with CF for 10 years and has seen a lot, or can point you where to find find out more when he's stumped. Let him help you. Again, first-time callers can even speak for free.
And besides just talking on the phone, if you catch him when he's at his computer (or schedule an appointment for such), he can use any of several tools to enable you to show him what you're seeing, or he can show you something. Sometimes that's so much more expedient than emails, chats, or talking only by phone. These services don't require you to install any software on your computer and they work fine over firewalls.
The system has knowledge of Charlie's schedule of availability (typically 11am-7pm, Eastern or GMT-5, Mon-Sat). You don't need to worry about interrupting him. The system will tell you if you try to call him when he's unavailable, and you can schedule an appointment for whatever number of hours/days/weeks you're willing to wait, at which time he'll call you; or you can request (via a form presented) to set up a phone call appointment via email. Same for if he's simply unable to take the call (in a meeting, on another call). You can choose to have him reconnect with you later.
What about international callers? The system works for you, too, in most cases (see below). Instead of dialing the 888 number,
you should instead click the "call me" button below. The system will take your request and
will call you back to connect with Charlie.
Note that there is no charge other than the per minute rate consulting for the time you spend on the call (in other words, you don't pay a long distance or international rate charge because you'll be receiving, not sending, a call. Of course, if you do pay to receive calls, that's different. Charlie, also, will not pay for the portion of the call from the US to you. That's included in the service providing this call connecting feature. And if it would cost money for you to be called, that too will not be charged to Charlie, but will be born by the providers of the system.)
As for the timing, though you're likely on a different time zone than Charlie, don't hesitate to try the "call me" button. The system knows when Charlie is willing/able to take a call, so no need to fear waking him up in the middle of the night. See the previous question above, "When can I call?", for more.
Folks in the US and Canada can call the 888 number below. Those in the following other countries should use the "call me" link below to arrange a call: Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Canada, Chile, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, India, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Luxembourg, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Netherlands, Netherlands Antilles, Sweden, Taiwan, United Arab Emirates and United Kingdom. If you're in another country, sadly the service doesn't currently support your calling.
Though the rate is quoted in US Dollars, you'll pay in your own denomination at the appropriate current exchange rate.
You may wonder about using Skype for talking, but of course the point of the service is that it facilitates your payment for Charlie's time and is tied to the phone call for computing the duration, etc. Certainly, if you have extended needs or want/need to organize a call or support in another way, that can be arranged.
Contact Charlie directly.
Finally, it's natural to be skeptical about paying for help, even at low rates. Besides the 10-minutes free offer for first-time callers, Charlie offers a money-back satisfaction guarantee. If during a paid call you feel that you've not received your money's worth of help, just ask him and he'll see to it that you're credited for that call (or whatever portion of it that you may request).
If you're having problems related to ColdFusion, BlueDragon, and related technologies (databases, SQL, web servers, web services, etc.), see if Charlie may be able to help you.
Click the buttons below or use the phone number. Either way, a call will be arranged either immediately or on an appointment you arrange.
(Note that when you're prompted for your phone number, that's not shared with Charlie.)
